PRIVACY POLICY
This Privacy Notice for Langspool ("we," "us," or "our") describes how and why we might access, collect, store, use, and/or share ("process") your personal information when you use our services ("Services"), including when you visit our website at langspool.app, use Langspool at app.langspool.app, or engage with us in other related ways.
Langspool is a web application that teaches vocabulary using spaced repetition. It runs in the user's web browser on any device (phone, tablet or computer) and can be installed from the browser like an app; no account is needed. The app uses an algorithm to schedule word reviews based on the user's performance. User study progress, mastery scores, and settings are stored exclusively in the browser's storage on the user's device and are never transmitted to our servers. The app offers a free tier of 50 vocabulary words and a one-time paid license (€19) that unlocks the full vocabulary set. Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record. We collect the user's email address if they voluntarily provide it for purchase confirmation or product updates. The app collects no usage analytics.
Questions or concerns? Reading this Privacy Notice will help you understand your privacy rights and choices. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services. If you have questions or concerns, contact us at [email protected].

Australia and New Zealand

12. LOCAL DATA STORAGE
Langspool is a local-first application. Your vocabulary progress, mastery scores, study history, and application settings are stored exclusively on your device, in a local database in your browser's storage. Unless you turn on sync (below), this data is never transmitted to our servers. Langspool can't access it, and it is permanently deleted when you clear this site's data in your browser or uninstall the app. You can save a copy yourself with the app's backup feature; the backup file stays wherever you keep it. We have no ability to access, recover, or delete this local data on your behalf.
Sync. Sync is optional and off until you turn it on in the app. When it's on, each of your devices sends our server a copy of your progress and settings, encrypted on the device with a key made from your four sync words. We never receive your sync words, so we can't read these copies. Our server runs on Cloudflare and stores them in the European Union. It sees only random identifiers for your devices, when each copy changed and how large it is. When you first turn on sync, it checks your license key with Lemon Squeezy and doesn't keep the key. Each copy is deleted a year after its device last synced. You can delete them sooner in the app, in Menu → Sync → Turn off sync: "Only on this device" deletes that device's copy, and "On all devices, and delete the synced copy" deletes all of them and turns off sync on all your devices. Your progress stays on each device either way. As with any web request, Cloudflare receives your IP address; our server doesn't record it. Before a sync changes your progress, the app keeps a copy of it on your device for seven days; that copy never leaves your device.
Voice audio. After you check an answer, the app plays a short recording of the word or sentence in the language you are studying. Your browser loads each recording from our website, the same way it loads the app's other files. As with any web request, our hosting provider Cloudflare receives your IP address and the name of the file, which identifies the word or sentence being played (and so whether you answered that card correctly). These requests carry no account details and none of your study progress. If you download a level's audio in Study Settings, its recordings play from your device and these requests aren't made.
Card reports. If you choose to report a problem with a card, the app sends that card (its word, sentences, translation and audio file names), the answer you typed, the parts you ticked, your optional note and the app version to our server, which runs on Cloudflare. Our server saves the report as an issue in our private project on GitHub (GitHub, Inc.), where we review it to fix the card; it stays there as part of the project's history. Reports contain no account details, device ID, email address or study progress. As with any web request, Cloudflare receives your IP address; our server keeps it for up to one hour, only to limit how many reports can be sent, and doesn't add it to the report. Please don't include personal information in your note.
13. DO WE MAKE UPDATES TO THIS NOTICE?
Yes, we will update this notice as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws. The updated version will be indicated by an updated date at the top of this Privacy Notice.
14. HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS NOTICE?
If you have questions or comments about this notice, email us at [email protected].
15. HOW CAN YOU REVIEW, UPDATE, OR DELETE THE DATA WE COLLECT FROM YOU?
You have the right to request access to the personal information we collect from you, details about how we process it, correction of inaccuracies, or deletion of your personal information. To request review, update, or deletion, email [email protected]. You can delete synced copies of your progress yourself in the app, in Menu → Sync → Turn off sync → On all devices. We can't do it for you: without your sync words, we can't tell which copies are yours.
