Every release, and what changed in it. The newest version is always at the top.
2.7.0Latest
October 2026
Improved: the counter at the top counts your correct answers, retries included, and a progress bar fills as you go. A set ends after 50 correct answers, and the next one starts at 0.
New: don't know the word? Leave the gap empty and tap Show answer.
Improved: Show answer, Check and Next are easier to see. After you answer, the keyboard focus moves to Next or Again.
Improved: on phones the page no longer scrolls or bounces, and the cards fit small screens like the iPhone SE.
Fixed: in a timed session, the previous card showed a wrong count instead of the timer.
New: go back to the card you just finished with the ← button or the left arrow key.
New: an optional soft chime for correct answers, and a switch to turn the voice off (Study Settings).
Improved: a calmer layout. The word you're learning and its meaning sit together at the top, and stay above the keyboard on phones.
Improved: small touches when you learn a word, and every button is easier to tap.
Improved: removed a German card that used an English spelling.
2.4.2
October 2026
Fixed: about 70 German cards had a sentence that didn't fit the word (a verb card with a noun in its sentence, or the other way round). Each now has a sentence of its own that fits, with new audio.
Fixed: German words now show their proper capitalization in the word list (Mann, Zeit, bald). Your progress is kept.
2.4.1
October 2026
Improved: a new, easier-to-read font for the sentences you study.
2.4.0
October 2026
New: after you answer, tap the word to hear it again, or tap Replay to hear the whole sentence.
New: open Langspool in as many tabs as you like. The tab you're using always has your latest progress.
New: "Install app" in the menu shows how to install Langspool on your device, and the steps also appear when you finish a session.
Improved: the English word now sits above the sentence, so the phone keyboard no longer hides it. "Show sentence" stays on until you hide it again.
Fixed: switching between a word count and a timer mid-session showed the wrong card count.
Fixed: on phones, the typing gap no longer overlaps letters like j and g on the line above.
2.3.0
October 2026
New: Brazilian Portuguese. 3,585 everyday words from A1 to B1, each taught in its own real sentence, with a placement test to find your level. Switch languages any time in the menu; your license covers every language.
Every Portuguese word has audio, with two Brazilian voices.
New: synonyms count. Type another word that means the same and fits the sentence, and it's marked right. The card still shows you its own word.
New: report a problem with any card after you check it. Reports go straight to us and help fix the deck.
Improved: every card now has a sentence of its own. We rewrote about 300 German sentences that were too alike and fixed a few German cards.
Improved: skip the placement test if you'd rather start from word 1, and the menu now sits top left on phones.
2.2.2
September 2026
All German words now have audio.
2.2.1
September 2026
More voices: every A1 and A2 word now has audio, and so do many B1 words. The rest follows next month.
Improved: offline voice audio lists the levels in order (A1, A2, B1…).
2.2.0
September 2026
New: take the voices offline. In Study Settings, download a level's audio (A1 is 8.2 MB) and its clips play straight from your device: offline too, and without a request to our server for each clip. Remove it any time to free the space.
2.1.0
September 2026
New: hear the German. When you check an answer, a natural German voice reads it aloud: the whole sentence when you get it right, and the word on its own when you don't, so you hear it before you try again.
New: two voices, Thomas and Petra, take turns from card to card.
Audio covers the A1 words first; more levels will follow. Audio needs an internet connection; everything else still works offline.
2.0.0
September 2026
New: Langspool is now a web app. It runs in any modern browser (on your phone, tablet or computer) and installs like an app with its own icon. No download, no Mac required.
New: works offline once you've opened it, and your progress is still saved only on your device.
New: download a backup and restore it on another device or browser. Coming from the Mac app? Restore the sync file from your Langspool sync folder to bring all your progress with you.
Improved: redesigned for phones, and the app now uses the Langspool typefaces throughout.
Changed: the Mac app is discontinued. Existing installs keep working, and your registration code works in the web app too.
1.2.0
July 2026
New: sync between your devices. Point Langspool at a folder in a service you already use (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Syncthing, Nextcloud, or your own server), and your study progress merges across machines. Your data never touches a Langspool server.
New: your registration code is now visible in Settings → Account, with one-click copy, so you can activate Langspool on your other devices.
Improved: re-activating on the same Mac no longer uses up one of your three device activations.
1.1.0
June 2026
New: timed focus sessions. Set a 10, 15, or 25-minute timer and study with a live countdown that pauses when you open a menu.
New: a study-pace tile on your dashboard showing words reviewed per minute.
New: optional strict umlaut checking, for when you want ä, ö, ü, and ß typed exactly.
Nouns now show their article when revealed, and example sentences read more clearly.
Fixed a rare issue where the app could open to a blank screen after several weeks of daily use.
